Instagram Wednesday

The last time I was at Barnes & Noble I ran across this colorful new magazine call Good Ideas. It's a British magazine from the publishers of Good Housekeeping. One of the articles inside was called, "Quick Fixes to Lift Your Mood." Do you ever have one of those days where you just are feeling blue and down in the dumps? I know I do.

Here's what the article suggested for those kind of days:

1. Take a nap
2. Write something - a letter, a journal entry, etc.
3. Look back - on a fond memory, where you have been, etc.
4. Plan your weekend so you have something to look forward to.
5. Do something different and out of the ordinary.
6. Smile :)
7. Go for a walk.
8. Eat something healthy.
9. Be considerate to others.
10. Live for NOW, instead of concentrating on the past and what-ifs.

Friday Fill-Ins

I saw this tree along the road this week while I was up at the cottage.
It looks like a perfectly normal tree with a knot in the trunk, right?
I thought so too until I took a closer look. . .
A family of Gnomes has taken up residence in the tree!!!

And...here we go!
1. These three words described my significant other: Honest, Kind, and Hard-working.
2. Spending time at the cottage is a delight!
3. Oh, how I adore springtime!
4. One can learn a lot from others if one takes time to be friendly.
5. Inevitably, it always rains here on Memorial Day.
6. My Aunt Helen is someone who never ceased to encourage me.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to dinner at my brother's house, tomorrow my plans include doing laundry and Sunday, I want to wash the car!

Sew Happy!

On my many adventures last week, I stumbled upon this fabulous little find. I've always wanted an antique sewing machine table, but usually they are way out of my price range. But not this one - I was lucky enough to get it for a song, sewing machine included! All it really needed was a little dusting an application of lemon oil and now it shines like a beauty!

I mentioned on Friday that I was planning on going to the Scotty Dog Rally and Parade over the weekend, complete with bagpipes, etc. Well plans changed, like they usually do, so I never made it to the parade. But here is a photo of some of the happy participants.

2. Sometimes my head hurts.
3. It'll be fun to visit Galena later this summer.
4. Paris is a place I always wanted to visit, but haven't yet.
5. When I'm sad it hurts; when I'm happy it doesn't.
6. Going on Historical Walking Tours is something I like about my community.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to lounging around with friends, tomorrow my plans include going to the Scotty Dog Parade and Sunday, I want to have brunch!

I saw this in the May/June issue of Cloth, Paper, Scissors magazine.
Doesn't it look like fun? I'd like to give it a try!

It was a beautiful sunny day here on Mother's Day and even more so since I got to spend it with my daughter and son-in-law.
They took me out for breakfast at Honey-Jam Cafe. It was VERY crowded, but the food was well worth the wait.
I had the Veggie Scrambler with hash browns and the most delicious pancakes.
I loved the color palette of the flowers in the containers at the front door - especially the addition of the pussy willows they used to add some height. I had a great day! Thank you N and J.

I went to Panera for coffee this morning {upper right corner} and brought along my computer to watch some tutorials that have been piling up in my inbox. This particular one {upper left corner} is from Donna Downey's Inspiration Wednesday. I tend to doodle whenever I am watching videos {lower left corner}. I wish I would have saved all the napkins I've drawn on over the years!

Tuesday Tip

I picked up this set of much needed vintage silver salad/dessert forks at a sale over the weekend. The vendor who sold them to me said she always sticks one of those little bags of silica gel granules in with her silver to absorb the moisture which can cause silver to tarnish. What a great idea . . . and to think I've just been tossing those little bags in the trash all these years!
